Claude Opus 4.8’s May 28 launch, featuring stronger agentic coding, Dynamic Workflows for parallel subagents, and improved long-horizon task handling, has accelerated Claude Code’s commit velocity. Anthropic now attributes more than 80 percent of its merged production code to Claude, yielding an eightfold rise in output per engineer, while the tool accounts for roughly 4 percent of public GitHub commits. June updates adding background sessions, refined agent metrics, and explicit GitHub attribution continue the momentum. Traders are watching the June 15 billing separation for agents and older Opus deprecation, alongside Microsoft’s planned internal license phase-out by month-end, as potential swing factors for final commit totals before resolution.
