Lindsay Clancy has been charged by The Commonwealth of Massachusetts with three counts of murder for the death of her three children. You can read more about that here: https://media.wbur.org/wp/2023/09/clancy-indictment.pdf. This market will resolve to "Yes" if Lindsay Clancy is sentenced to any term of incarceration stemming from the ongoing Commonwealth v. Lindsay Clancy case by either December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET or, in the event of a mistrial, by the end of any retrial (including possible sentencing proceedings) that begins before that date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Any custodial sentence will qualify regardless of its length, regardless of the offense it is imposed for, and regardless of whether it is satisfied in whole or in part by credit for time already served. A sentence that is entirely suspended, a sentence of probation carrying no term of incarceration, a fine alone, or an order of commitment to a mental health facility will not qualify. If this case ends due to a dismissal, or results in any situation in which no sentence is imposed by the court, or results in a verdict of Not Guilty on all charges (including by reason of lack of criminal responsibility due to mental illness), this market will resolve to "No". A plea agreement will qualify to resolve this market "Yes" only if it results in a sentence that includes a term of incarceration. If all charges against Clancy are dropped, this market will immediately resolve to "No". This market will resolve according to the initial sentence imposed in this case. Any appeals, or any later modification, reduction, or vacating of the sentence, will have no bearing on the resolution of this market. The primary resolution source will be an official judgment delivered by the ruling court; however, other credible reporting may be used. The mistrial declared on September 4 after a reported 11-1 jury deadlock has anchored trader consensus that Lindsay Clancy will not receive a prison sentence this year. The Plymouth County District Attorney has yet to announce plans for a retrial, plea, or dismissal ahead of the September 29 status hearing, while Clancy remains committed to Tewksbury Hospital under psychiatric care. Legal experts note that even an acquittal or dropped charges would likely trigger civil commitment proceedings resulting in long-term institutionalization rather than incarceration, consistent with Massachusetts precedent in cases involving postpartum psychosis claims. A new trial or conviction remains possible but faces significant procedural and evidentiary hurdles that make a 2026 prison sentence improbable.
