Taiwan's November 28, 2026, Penghu County magistrate race features a crowded field after incumbent Chen Kuang-fu withdrew due to health concerns, prompting the DPP to nominate his wife Wu Shu-chin. The KMT has backed Chen Chen-chung, the Huxi Township head, while multiple independents and other party figures have entered, fragmenting support across more than two dozen declared candidates. This multi-candidate dynamic keeps implied probabilities tightly clustered near even odds for leading contenders, as vote splitting remains a core risk. Recent party nominations and local mobilization efforts have yet to produce decisive separation in trader assessments. Scheduled candidate forums, fresh polling on key local issues such as tourism and fisheries policy, and any late withdrawals or endorsements could consolidate backing and shift the balance ahead of election day.
