Romania's ongoing government formation crisis, triggered by the May 2026 no-confidence vote that toppled the Bolojan cabinet, centers trader attention on the president's constitutional role in designating the next prime minister candidate under Article 103. After consultations with pro-European parties, President Nicușor Dan's June nominations of Eugen Tomac (a technocratic attempt) and then Adrian Veștea both failed to secure the required parliamentary majority amid coalition fragmentation between PNL, PSD, USR, and UDMR, with AUR excluded. Persistent fiscal pressures, EU fund access risks, and currency weakness have prolonged the deadlock into July, highlighting the challenges of rebuilding a stable majority without early elections or further institutional strain.
