**The 30-year Treasury yield has climbed to multi-year highs near 5.37% as of mid-September 2026, up roughly 70 basis points year-to-date and over 80 basis points from a year earlier, driven primarily by persistent inflation pressures and heavy fiscal supply.** August CPI held steady at 3.4% year-over-year with core at 2.4%, while surging oil prices have elevated near-term inflation expectations and prompted markets to price a higher probability of Federal Reserve rate hikes at the upcoming FOMC meeting. Elevated Treasury issuance to fund widening deficits, combined with corporate borrowing needs, has increased term-premium demands, pushing long-end yields higher despite solid auction demand from indirect buyers. Recent auctions cleared at progressively higher yields, with the September 10 sale at 5.308%. Traders are focused on whether supply dynamics and inflation data sustain further upside before year-end or if moderating growth or policy shifts cap the peak.
