Latest National Weather Service and ensemble model guidance point to a Chicago high of 71–74°F on September 18, driven by persistent cloud cover, easterly flow off Lake Michigan, and limited diurnal heating under a stable post-frontal pattern. These conditions moderate temperatures several degrees below the 1991–2020 average high of 75°F, with lake-effect stabilization and high relative humidity capping afternoon peaks near the shoreline. Trader consensus clusters on 70–73°F because short-term model runs show only modest warming potential if skies partially clear midday, while heavier cloud decks or earlier showers would favor the lower end of that range. Updated NWS briefings and next model cycles will refine the exact maximum before resolution.
