Gold prices are trading near $4,450 per ounce in early September 2026, consolidating after an August rally toward $4,600 amid shifting Fed expectations. Sticky inflation—with May headline PCE at 4.1% year-over-year and core at 3.4%—combined with hawkish signals from Chair Kevin Warsh has increased the odds of rate hikes at the September 15–16 FOMC meeting, supporting higher real yields and a firmer dollar that raise gold’s opportunity cost. Central bank purchases and U.S. debt sustainability concerns continue to provide structural bids, while upcoming August CPI data on September 10 could further recalibrate trader-implied rate paths and near-term price levels.
