Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,630–4,650 per ounce as of late August 2026, supported by a softer U.S. dollar and scaled-back odds of a September Federal Reserve rate hike following tame inflation prints. Trader sentiment reflects ongoing safe-haven demand amid geopolitical tensions and persistent inflation concerns, offset by expectations of steady or tighter monetary policy that limit further upside versus earlier 2026 peaks above $5,300. Recent weekly gains of around 3–5% highlight sensitivity to Treasury yields and Fed communications, with the Jackson Hole Symposium and upcoming CPI data serving as near-term catalysts that could shift implied probabilities for month-end levels. Central bank purchases and ETF inflows continue to provide a structural bid, though forecasts from major banks have moderated toward the $4,500–4,900 range for year-end amid higher-for-longer rate paths.
