The upcoming September 13, 2026, Swedish regional elections will determine the composition of Region Skåne’s fullmäktige and, through subsequent coalition negotiations, the next chair of the regionstyrelse. Incumbent Carl Johan Sonesson (Moderates) has held the post since 2018, while Henrik Fritzon (Social Democrats) served previously and currently holds the second vice chair position. With the two main contenders trading narrow leads in trader pricing near 50 percent and other listed names showing minimal implied probability, the market reflects uncertainty over bloc performance and post-election bargaining. Recent months have featured routine regional governance on healthcare and infrastructure with no major scandals or shifts in party positioning to break the deadlock. Key variables ahead include final polling margins in Skåne’s battleground areas, turnout among core voter groups, and any cross-bloc deals that could elevate secondary figures such as Lisa Flinth.
