Ramzan Kadyrov's position as Head of the Chechen Republic remains shaped by recurring health rumors, including reports of kidney issues and hospitalizations in early 2026, alongside repeated signals of possible resignation that he has later clarified or reversed following Kremlin meetings. United Russia nominated him for another term in July 2026, a move viewed as extending his influence ahead of the September 20, 2026 regional elections, where only Chechnya among North Caucasus republics selects its head via direct vote. Succession discussions center on family members such as sons Adam and Akhmat—still below the legal age threshold of 30—or inner-circle figures like Adam Delimkhanov and Magomed Daudov, with clan dynamics and federal stability priorities influencing any transition. These factors sustain market focus on timing and triggers for removal.
