Israeli airstrikes on Nabatieh district targets on August 15-16, 2026, represent the most recent escalation, triggered by a Hezbollah drone attack that wounded three IDF soldiers in a designated security zone. These strikes followed a U.S.-brokered conditional ceasefire framework from June 2026 that established pilot withdrawal zones but left Israeli forces positioned near southern Lebanese towns while requiring Hezbollah disarmament. Ongoing Rome talks and Lebanese calls for a withdrawal timetable continue amid repeated violations, with IDF operations focused on eliminating remaining Hezbollah infrastructure north of the Litani River. Trader assessments of any ground entry into Nabatieh itself hinge on whether diplomatic pressure or renewed clashes alter the current pattern of limited incursions and airstrikes.
