Nigel Farage's July 2026 resignation to force a by-election he plans to re-contest has produced a contest on 13 August in which Labour, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, and Greens are all boycotting, leaving a record 34 candidates. Count Binface, the novelty independent, therefore faces the least fragmented opposition and is viewed by traders as the likeliest runner-up under first-past-the-post. The remaining field consists largely of independents and minor-party entrants whose votes are expected to split, keeping their individual probabilities for second place near or below 50 percent. Low-odds contenders such as William Clouston, Laurence Fox, and others lack comparable national visibility or organized support in the constituency. The by-election timing and absence of mainstream challengers are the dominant factors anchoring current market pricing.
