Incumbent Robert Luna holds an 84% implied probability in trader consensus for the November 2026 runoff, reflecting his strong June primary performance (44% of the vote) against a crowded field and his decisive 2022 general-election victory over the same opponent by roughly 21 points. Alex Villanueva trails at 10.5%, consistent with his weaker primary showing (22%) and historical precedent in the nonpartisan contest. The June primary results locked in the Luna-Villanueva matchup for the general election, with no major subsequent polling shifts, scandals, or campaign developments reported through mid-August. Other listed candidates remain at lower implied probabilities given their elimination from the runoff. The race centers on standard factors such as incumbency advantage, voter turnout in Los Angeles County, and any late-cycle issues affecting law-enforcement leadership perceptions.
