Recent cooling U.S. economic data, including softer July inflation and weaker-than-expected retail sales, has reduced trader bets on an imminent Federal Reserve rate hike, driving the DXY lower to approximately 99.45–99.55 as of August 17. This marks a decline of over 1.4% in the past month amid receding policy tightening expectations, with markets now pricing a higher probability of a September hold. Key upcoming catalysts include the July FOMC minutes, Empire State Manufacturing Index, NAHB Housing Market Index, and Fed Chair remarks at Jackson Hole, all of which could shift rate path views and influence dollar flows versus major currencies. Interest rate differentials and inflation trajectory remain central to near-term DXY movements.
