Gonzalo Villanueva enters this ITF M25 Asuncion semifinal on clay as the clear favorite over Santiago De la Fuente, backed by his superior ATP ranking near 316 versus De la Fuente’s position outside the top 700. Villanueva arrives with strong recent clay results, including a straight-sets quarterfinal victory in the same event, and leads their head-to-head after defeating De la Fuente in straight sets during an April 2026 Challenger match. The 31-year-old Argentine’s greater experience and 2026 win-loss record on clay provide a meaningful edge, while the 24-year-old De la Fuente has shown solid form by reaching this stage but faces a significant step up in opponent quality. Surface conditions and rest levels between the pair remain comparable heading into the match.
