Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,430–$4,480 per ounce as of early September 2026, with sentiment shaped primarily by shifting Federal Reserve rate expectations ahead of the September 16 FOMC meeting. Hawkish signals from Chair Kevin Warsh and recent strength in labor data have kept September rate-hike odds around 50%, supporting elevated real yields near 2.1% on the 10-year Treasury and capping upside for the non-yielding metal. The immediate catalysts are August PPI on September 10 and CPI on September 11, which will refine inflation trajectories and dollar strength; hotter prints could reinforce tightening bets while softer data may ease real-yield pressure. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East add a safe-haven bid via higher oil prices, though sustained central-bank demand provides longer-term support amid fiscal concerns.
