Rafael López Aliaga leads the Lima mayoral market at 75.9% implied probability due to his strong name recognition as the outgoing mayor and Renovación Popular’s dominant position in recent Lima voting. His list, initially headed by Luis Rubio before the latter’s August resignation, positions Aliaga as first regidor, allowing him to assume the mayoralty if the ticket prevails on October 4 despite constitutional limits on immediate re-election. Recent early September polls show his support in the 20-38% range, well ahead of Carlos Bruce at 20.6% and lower-polling contenders such as Daniel Urresti, Francis Allison, and Ricardo Belmont. The Jurado Nacional de Elecciones confirmed Aliaga’s candidacy in early September after resolving challenges, reinforcing trader expectations of a Renovación Popular victory based on the party’s prior results and current polling trends.
