Javokhir Sindarov holds a substantial edge in trader consensus for the 2026 World Chess Championship due to his dominant 2026 Candidates victory, where he secured the spot with a round to spare after an undefeated run that included multiple wins. The Uzbek grandmaster's recent classical form, highlighted by strong showings in the Global Chess League and early Olympiad rounds, reinforces his positioning as the frontrunner ahead of the November-December match in Geneva. Defending champion Gukesh Dommaraju, meanwhile, has seen his rating slip below 2700 amid inconsistent results, including draws against lower-rated opposition and limited wins in team events. Magnus Carlsen has publicly described Sindarov as the clearer favorite based on current form and evaluation depth, though the 14-game classical format leaves room for momentum shifts in either direction.
