Rei Sakamoto enters the US Open first-round matchup against Aleksandar Vukic riding strong momentum after qualifying with three straight wins, capped by a 6-4, 7-6 victory over retiring Japanese star Kei Nishikori that featured 19 aces. The 20-year-old, ranked around 157-165, has climbed rapidly and shown big-serving power on outdoor hard courts. Vukic, the 30-year-old Australian ranked near 95-99 with a career-high of 48, holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge from a 2025 Tokyo qualifying win on the same surface but brings inconsistent recent form and a history of early US Open exits. The contest on Court 7 pits Sakamoto’s youth and recent surge against Vukic’s experience in what traders view as a competitive opener.
