Taylor Fritz enters the Cincinnati Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite, bolstered by his recent Washington title and strong hard-court record in 2026, though Alex Michelsen holds a 2-1 head-to-head edge after upsetting Fritz at Indian Wells earlier this year. Fritz, the higher-ranked American, secured his first win over Michelsen in their July Washington quarterfinal after saving a match point, while Michelsen has shown consistent recent form with wins over higher seeds and strong serve-volley play on outdoor hard courts. Both players favor aggressive baseline exchanges on this surface, where rest advantages and recent match play will likely influence the outcome in the Masters 1000 setting. Trader consensus reflects Fritz's experience and ranking edge against Michelsen's proven upset potential in prior meetings.
