Daniel Altmaier and Francisco Comesana, both entering the Winston-Salem Open on outdoor hard as last-minute US Open preparation, bring contrasting surface profiles into any potential second-round clash. Altmaier, ranked around No. 65 and coming off a straight-sets Cincinnati loss to Musetti after a qualifier win, holds more recent hard-court experience and a slightly better overall hard record. Comesana, ranked near No. 109 with a career-high of 54, remains a clay-dominant player whose 2026 hard results sit at just 2-7 amid a three-match losing skid entering the event. Their head-to-head stands tied at 1-1, with Comesana’s lone win on clay, leaving the faster North Carolina courts to highlight Altmaier’s first-strike baseline game and serve reliability against Comesana’s preference for extended rallies. Recent form metrics and the medium-paced hard surface create the primary separation reflected in trader positioning.
