Lindsay Clancy has been charged by The Commonwealth of Massachusetts with three counts of murder for the death of her three children. You can read more about that here: https://media.wbur.org/wp/2023/09/clancy-indictment.pdf. This market will resolve to "Yes" if Lindsay Clancy is sentenced to any term of incarceration stemming from the ongoing Commonwealth v. Lindsay Clancy case by either December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET or, in the event of a mistrial, by the end of any retrial (including possible sentencing proceedings) that begins before that date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Any custodial sentence will qualify regardless of its length, regardless of the offense it is imposed for, and regardless of whether it is satisfied in whole or in part by credit for time already served. A sentence that is entirely suspended, a sentence of probation carrying no term of incarceration, a fine alone, or an order of commitment to a mental health facility will not qualify. If this case ends due to a dismissal, or results in any situation in which no sentence is imposed by the court, or results in a verdict of Not Guilty on all charges (including by reason of lack of criminal responsibility due to mental illness), this market will resolve to "No". A plea agreement will qualify to resolve this market "Yes" only if it results in a sentence that includes a term of incarceration. If all charges against Clancy are dropped, this market will immediately resolve to "No". This market will resolve according to the initial sentence imposed in this case. Any appeals, or any later modification, reduction, or vacating of the sentence, will have no bearing on the resolution of this market. The primary resolution source will be an official judgment delivered by the ruling court; however, other credible reporting may be used.Recent mistrial in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial, declared after a hung jury on September 4, 2026, has reinforced strong trader consensus against a 2026 prison sentence, reflected in the 94.5% “No” implied probability. The deadlock leaves charges intact but shifts immediate focus to a September 29 status hearing, with prosecutors undecided on retrying the case and Clancy returning to psychiatric care at Tewksbury Hospital rather than criminal sentencing proceedings. Defense arguments centered on postpartum psychosis and lack of criminal responsibility, while legal experts note that even a future conviction or not-guilty-by-reason finding would likely lead to long-term civil commitment in a forensic facility, not traditional prison time. Any retrial or plea resolution faces significant delays into 2027 or beyond, consistent with Massachusetts case patterns. An expedited plea deal before year-end remains a narrow realistic scenario that could alter the outcome.
