The Bank of Korea's August 27 hike to 3.00%—the second consecutive 25-basis-point increase—has anchored trader expectations for a pause at the October 22 meeting, reflected in the 76% implied probability of no change. Stronger-than-expected semiconductor-driven growth prompted an upward revision to the 2026 GDP forecast to 3.3%, while core inflation held elevated at 2.6% in July amid energy price pressures and a positive output gap. Governor Shin Hyun-song emphasized a gradual, data-dependent path, with the updated dot plot showing a 3.25% median endpoint over six months and one dissent highlighting internal caution. Markets price limited scope for another immediate hike given the recent tightening cycle, though September inflation prints and housing market developments could influence the final assessment.
