Cristina Bucsa, ranked No. 40 and fresh off a three-set victory over seeded Sara Bejlek in US Open round one, faces qualifier Himeno Sakatsume (No. 144) in what shapes up as a significant ranking and experience mismatch on hard courts. Bucsa reached the fourth round here in 2025 and has shown improved serving and return pressure in recent hard-court matches despite mixed results in Monterrey. Sakatsume, making her main-draw debut after strong qualifying wins including a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Mia Ristic, brings momentum but limited Grand Slam exposure. The surface and Bucsa’s established WTA pedigree on outdoor hard courts represent the primary factors shaping consensus around the higher-ranked player’s edge.
