Aleksandar Vukic enters the US Open first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts as the higher-ranked player at approximately No. 95, bringing greater main-draw experience and a 1-0 head-to-head edge from their 2025 Tokyo qualifying meeting. The 30-year-old Australian has shown mixed 2026 results with limited success in Grand Slams, including multiple first-round exits at Flushing Meadows. Rei Sakamoto, the 20-year-old Japanese qualifier ranked around No. 157, arrives with strong momentum after defeating Kei Nishikori in the final qualifying round and posting three straight wins to reach the main draw. Sakamoto's powerful serving, highlighted by 19 aces in qualifying, and recent ranking climb position him as a rising threat despite limited prior ATP main-draw exposure. Trader consensus reflects the narrow gap between Vukic's veteran know-how and Sakamoto's form and athletic upside on the hard surface.
