Daniil Medvedev enters this National Bank Open second-round matchup on hard courts in strong 2026 form after capturing the Brisbane title and reaching deep runs at multiple Masters events, while holding a 4-0 head-to-head edge over Botic van de Zandschulp. The Dutchman arrives with momentum from a first-round upset of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and a 15-15 season record, but faces a significant ranking and experience gap against the higher-seeded Russian. Surface consistency, recent match fitness, and Medvedev’s proven ability to close out lower-ranked opponents on North American hard courts shape trader expectations for the encounter.
