Incumbent Robert Luna holds a commanding position in the 2026 Los Angeles County Sheriff race after securing 44% in the June primary and advancing to the November runoff against former sheriff Alex Villanueva, who received 22%. Luna’s status as the sitting officeholder, combined with his 2022 victory over the same opponent, underpins trader consensus around his reelection prospects. The primary field of eight candidates narrowed decisively to this rematch, with no other contenders qualifying for the general election ballot. Villanueva’s lower implied probability reflects his prior defeat and the structural advantages typically afforded to incumbents in countywide contests. Limited post-primary developments have left the matchup largely stable, though turnout patterns in the November general election and any late shifts in voter sentiment on law enforcement issues could still influence the final outcome.
