Ongoing negotiations following Stripe and Advent International’s July 2026 offer of $60.50 per share (roughly $53 billion) for PayPal remain the dominant driver behind the 55.5% market-implied probability of an acquisition of any portion of PayPal this year. PayPal rejected the initial bid as undervaluing the company and is seeking a higher price while talks continue, supported by $50 billion in committed financing. Stripe’s robust growth—Q1 2026 revenue run rate near $8 billion and $1.9 trillion in 2025 total payment volume—contrasts with PayPal’s challenges, creating strategic rationale for combining merchant infrastructure with consumer networks such as Venmo. Key catalysts include potential revised offers, board decisions, and regulatory scrutiny through year-end, with market odds reflecting balanced uncertainty over deal completion amid price and structural negotiations.

Acquiring a part of PayPal refers to any material acquisition of a subset of PayPal by Stripe, including but not limited to a PayPal subsidiary, business unit, or equity interest. A total acquisition of PayPal by Stripe will count. Business partnerships between PayPal and Stripe will not count.
An announcement of a qualifying acquisition or merger by PayPal or PayPal and Stripe will qualify for a "Yes" resolution, regardless of whether the announced acquisition/merger actually occurs.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from PayPal and Stripe, however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
