Rafael Jodar, the 19-year-old Spaniard ranked No. 15, arrives in strong form after a breakthrough run to his first Masters 1000 semifinal at the National Bank Open, highlighted by straight-sets victories over Lorenzo Musetti, Jiri Lehecka, and Arthur Fils. Brandon Nakashima, the American ranked No. 31, also reached his maiden semifinals here with wins over Arthur Rinderknech (after a weather delay) and Luciano Darderi, leveraging his reliable serve and experience on outdoor hard courts. Both players are former University of Virginia teammates and friends, adding personal context to the matchup, while Jodar’s rapid rise from outside the top 500 last year contrasts with Nakashima’s steadier ATP results. The winner advances to face either Ben Shelton or Learner Tien in the final.
