Édouard Philippe maintains a clear edge over Gabriel Attal in first-round polling among centrist and moderate voters, reflecting stronger consolidation of support from Macron-era backers and parts of the right ahead of the two-round presidential contest. Philippe's earlier campaign launch, established profile as mayor of Le Havre, and emphasis on economic reforms have contributed to this positioning, while Attal's aggressive summer outreach and recent debate performances have yet to close the gap despite his role leading Renaissance. Persistent divisions between the two candidates risk splitting the centrist vote and complicating qualification for the runoff against stronger contenders from the National Rally or La France Insoumise. The trader consensus captured in current market pricing aligns with these polling patterns and the structural challenges facing a unified centrist bid.
