Islam Makhachev’s post-fight comments after his August 15, 2026, welterweight title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 have driven strong trader consensus toward Carlos Prates as the next opponent. Prates sits at No. 1 in the division with three straight stoppage wins over high-profile names, maintaining activity while others like Shavkat Rakhmonov remain sidelined by injury. Makhachev explicitly called Prates the most deserving based on recent form and availability, aligning with official injury reports and rankings that favor the Brazilian’s power and finishing rate. This positions Prates as the clear frontrunner in the eyes of bettors tracking the welterweight landscape. Scenarios that could still shift odds include late injuries, a change in Makhachev’s preference toward Michael Morales or another active contender, or unexpected UFC scheduling adjustments.
