Maryland athletic director Jim Smith publicly confirmed in November 2025 that Mike Locksley would return for the 2026 season, citing a young roster nucleus, prior bowl appearances, and plans to increase NIL funding despite consecutive 4-8 records and a 1-8 Big Ten mark in 2024-25. Locksley’s contract extends through at least 2026, with buyout costs exceeding $13 million, limiting immediate administrative appetite for change. Entering his eighth year, the Terps face a projected low win total around 4.5 and are viewed as a make-or-break campaign in a competitive conference, yet no recent roster or staff moves indicate an imminent departure. Trader consensus at 62.8% for “No” reflects this institutional backing and lack of acute late-summer developments that would accelerate a coaching transition.
