Silver prices have traded near $66 per ounce in early September 2026 after a sharp drop following stronger-than-expected August U.S. nonfarm payrolls, which reinforced expectations for a potential Federal Reserve rate hike at the September 16 FOMC meeting and supported a firmer dollar. This has pressured the metal despite a structural market deficit projected at 46.3 million ounces for the year and sustained industrial demand from solar, EVs, and electronics. Key near-term catalysts include the September 10 PPI and September 11 CPI releases, which will shape rate-path implied probabilities and Treasury yields. Volatility remains elevated given silver’s dual role as both an industrial input and a non-yielding asset sensitive to real rates and USD movements.
