The Raiders selected Fernando Mendoza first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft after his Heisman-winning national championship season at Indiana, but named veteran Kirk Cousins the Week 1 starter following preseason competition under new head coach Klint Kubiak. Mendoza posted mixed preseason numbers (55.6% completion rate with turnovers) while adjusting to NFL mechanics, under-center work, and the pro playbook, leading to his backup role behind the 38-year-old Cousins. Week 1 saw no regular-season snaps for the rookie in a win over Miami, and he remains second on the depth chart heading into Week 2 against the Chargers with Aidan O’Connell unavailable. Key variables include Cousins’ early results, Mendoza’s practice reps and readiness, Brock Bowers’ injury status, and the team’s willingness to accelerate the timeline for their franchise quarterback prospect.

Fernando Mendoza will be considered "named the starting quarterback" if the Las Vegas Raiders officially announce him as their starting quarterback for a game within that timeframe, or if he takes the Las Vegas Raiders’ first offensive snap at quarterback in a game within that timeframe. An official announcement naming Fernando Mendoza the starting quarterback for a game within that timeframe will resolve this market to "Yes" regardless of whether he ultimately takes the field. Relief appearances in which another quarterback takes the Las Vegas Raiders’ first offensive snap of that game will not count, and preseason and playoff games will not count.
If the 2026-27 NFL regular season is cancelled, postponed past September 21, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or the Las Vegas Raiders play no regular season games in Week 1 through Week 2, this market will resolve to "No".
The primary resolution source will be official information from the NFL and/or the Las Vegas Raiders; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
