**The 2026 Big 12 rushing yards leader market remains tightly bunched because the season is only in its opening week, with no dominant frontrunner yet established amid deep backfields and returning production across multiple teams.** Preseason consensus highlighted BYU’s LJ Martin as the top returning option after his 2025 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year campaign, but transfers such as Oklahoma State’s Caleb Hawkins, West Virginia’s Cam Cook, and Kansas’ Dylan Edwards, alongside healthy returns like Baylor’s Dawson Pendergrass and TCU’s Jeremy Payne, have created a crowded field. Early statistical leaders from Week 0/1 action (including Payne) underscore how quickly momentum can shift based on usage, offensive line play, and game scripts. With most candidates projected in the 45–50% implied probability range, trader pricing reflects the inherent unpredictability of a 12-game slate plus conference play, where injuries, rotations, and team success will determine the final leader.
