Adam Walton enters the Winston-Salem Open second-round matchup against higher-ranked Ignacio Buse with recent hard-court momentum after defeating the Peruvian 6-4, 6-3 in Cincinnati just nine days earlier. Walton followed that result by winning his Winston-Salem opener against Jesper de Jong in straight sets. Buse, the No. 3 seed with an ATP 500 title in Hamburg this season and a career-high ranking near No. 36, received a bye but has lost his last two hard-court matches, including to Walton, after limited success on the surface this year. The rematch on outdoor hard courts at Wake Forest offers Walton a stylistic edge via serve and recent form, while Buse seeks to reverse the head-to-head deficit ahead of the US Open.
