Recent forecasts for the August 2026 CPI highlight a rebound in headline inflation to around 0.3–0.4% month-over-month, driven primarily by higher gasoline prices after prior declines and firmer food and shelter components, following July’s +0.1% print and +0.2% core reading. Trader positioning on Polymarket reflects this consensus, with 0.4% commanding the highest implied probability amid persistent services momentum and shelter acceleration, while core measures are projected near 0.24%. Lingering pressures from tariffs, AI-related demand, and wage growth continue to support underlying inflation above the Fed’s target, even as energy shocks from earlier geopolitical events ease. The August report, due September 11, will provide the final data point before the September FOMC meeting and could shift rate expectations if readings exceed or fall short of these levels.
