Arsenal enter the 2026-27 Premier League as defending champions with unmatched continuity under Mikel Arteta, bolstered by additions like Bruno Guimarães and Ezri Konsa that enhance midfield control and defensive depth after their 85-point title win. Rivals face greater upheaval: Manchester City navigate a post-Pep Guardiola era under Enzo Maresca amid significant squad turnover, Liverpool adjust to Andoni Iraola following Arne Slot’s exit and Mohamed Salah’s departure, and Chelsea integrate heavy summer spending under Xabi Alonso without European distractions. Aston Villa and Manchester United contend amid their own transitions and fixture congestion, while historical patterns show defending champions rarely repeat without sustained squad health. Trader consensus reflects these stability gaps heading into the opening weeks.
