Both the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals enter this series with sub-.500 records, as the Rockies sit near the bottom of the NL West at approximately 50-76 while the Nationals hover around .470 in the NL East. Recent injury reports highlight challenges for Colorado, with catcher Hunter Goodman day-to-day due to shoulder inflammation and multiple pitchers on the IL, alongside position players like Kyle Karros and Tyler Freeman. Washington has also dealt with oblique and elbow issues affecting its roster depth. The upcoming games at Nationals Park feature pitching matchups that could influence run totals, with both clubs showing inconsistent offensive output and the Rockies historically struggling on the road. Home-field factors and bullpen reliability remain key variables heading into the series.
