Aleksandar Vukic, ranked No. 95 with greater main-tour experience, faces 20-year-old qualifier Rei Sakamoto (No. 157) in the US Open first round on outdoor hard courts. Sakamoto advanced by defeating Kei Nishikori in qualifying with 19 aces and three straight wins, boosting his recent momentum on the surface where he holds a solid win rate. Vukic owns the head-to-head edge from their prior hard-court meeting but enters with a 0-4 US Open main-draw record and inconsistent 2026 results overall. The best-of-five format and Sakamoto's limited Grand Slam exposure create a matchup where serving efficiency and tiebreak execution could prove decisive in a closely contested opener.
