Alexei Popyrin, the 2024 National Bank Open champion and former top-20 player now ranked around 103-139, faces Thiago Agustin Tirante in the Montreal third round on outdoor hard courts. Tirante, ranked No. 65 with a career-high of 52, enters on strong recent form after upsetting seventh seed Taylor Fritz in straight sets and defeating qualifier Duncan Chan. The Argentine’s improved hard-court results and three top-10 wins this season contrast with Popyrin’s solid but less dominant 2026 campaign. Experience, serving power, and familiarity with the Rogers Court venue favor the Australian, while Tirante’s momentum and baseline consistency create upset potential in what shapes up as a competitive matchup. No prior head-to-head exists.
