Novak Djokovic, the four-time US Open champion and No. 4 seed, faces first-round opponent Mariano Navone on hard courts at Arthur Ashe Stadium with no prior head-to-head meetings. Djokovic enters after an early Cincinnati exit that provided extra training time, stating he feels prepared for best-of-five sets despite recent physical demands at age 39. His dominant hard-court record and 95-15 US Open history contrast sharply with Navone’s limited Grand Slam experience and primarily clay-based results, reflected in the Argentine’s recent hard-court losses. Market pricing aligns with the significant experience and surface gap, though Navone’s solid 2026 form offers limited upset potential in a debut matchup against the Serbian veteran.
