Learner Tien enters the first-round US Open matchup as the clear favorite against Nuno Borges, reflecting his higher ranking (No. 15 versus Borges around No. 41-47), stronger 2026 hard-court results, and 2-0 head-to-head edge including straight-sets victories at the Australian Open and Paris Masters. Tien’s rapid ascent features consistent wins against top opposition, efficient serving, and improved return play on hard courts, while Borges showed flashes in Cincinnati with a win over Rublev but exited early to Nakashima and holds a more mixed recent record. The hard-court setting and Tien’s left-handed game style further tilt the matchup in his favor, though Borges’s experience and occasional strong serving could extend sets in a Grand Slam opener.
