Martin Damm enters this Winston-Salem Open hard-court matchup as the clear favorite against Abedallah Shelbayh, holding the No. 94 ATP ranking compared to Shelbayh’s No. 253. The 6-foot-8 American’s powerful serve and recent career-high ranking achieved in mid-August give him an edge in baseline rallies and first-strike tennis. The pair met in Washington qualifying earlier this summer, where Damm rallied from a set down to win in three sets. Shelbayh, a Jordanian player with a career-high of 181, shows competitive form in lower-tier events but has posted limited results against top-100 opponents this season. Both 22-year-olds face an outdoor hard-court surface that favors Damm’s physical advantages and recent momentum.
