Gold prices hover near $4,430–$4,480 per ounce in early September 2026 amid shifting Fed rate expectations and geopolitical tensions. Stronger-than-expected August nonfarm payrolls lifted implied probabilities of a September FOMC rate hike toward 50–60 percent, supporting higher real yields and the dollar while capping near-term upside. Comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller later tempered hike odds, aiding a modest rebound as traders weigh inflation data and energy-driven price pressures from U.S.-Iran developments. Central bank purchases and safe-haven demand provide structural support, though elevated Treasury yields raise opportunity costs for the non-yielding asset. Key near-term catalysts include the upcoming CPI release and September 15–16 FOMC meeting, which could clarify the monetary policy path and influence gold’s range-bound trading.
