Interest rate differentials between the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan remain the dominant driver of USD/JPY positioning, with trader consensus split between 150-160 and 160-170 ranges reflecting uncertainty over the pace of BoJ normalization versus Fed easing through 2026. Recent data show the pair trading near 159.5 amid stable U.S. yields and gradual BoJ policy adjustments, while bank forecasts range from 150 to 164 by year-end depending on inflation trajectories and yield spreads. Key upcoming catalysts include FOMC and BoJ meetings plus U.S. and Japanese economic releases that could shift implied probabilities by altering expectations for basis-point changes in policy rates.
