The federal criminal case against the Southern Poverty Law Center centers on an April 2026 indictment alleging wire fraud, false statements to banks, and money-laundering conspiracy tied to undisclosed payments to informants in extremist groups between 2007 and 2023. The organization entered a not-guilty plea, filed a motion to dismiss citing vindictive prosecution linked to its prior legal challenges against Trump administration policies, and faces a superseding indictment adding a former official in August 2026. With trial scheduled for October 2026 in the Middle District of Alabama and ongoing pretrial motions, the 56% implied probability on “No” reflects trader assessment of procedural hurdles, possible dismissal, delays, or acquittal before year-end resolution.
