**The Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s October 28 interim Monetary Policy Review is priced by traders for no change in the Official Cash Rate at 71%, with a 28.5% chance of a 25 basis point hike.** This reflects the central bank’s decision to pause after consecutive 25 bp increases in July and September that lifted the OCR to 2.75%, allowing time to gauge the effects of tighter policy amid elevated headline inflation. June-quarter CPI reached 4.1% due to Middle East-driven fuel prices, yet core measures remain within the 1-3% target band and inflation expectations are anchored near 2%. The economy shows uneven recovery with unemployment at 5.6% in the June quarter. Assistant Governor Karen Silk’s early-September comments reinforced expectations of a December move rather than October action, aligning with market-implied odds that favor a data-dependent hold before the full December Monetary Policy Statement.
