Current WTI crude oil futures hover near $80 per barrel as of late August 2026, well below the $147.27 all-time high from July 2008 and recent 52-week peaks near $119 amid 2026 Middle East supply disruptions. Trader sentiment on Polymarket reflects limited near-term odds of breaching that record, driven by ample global inventories, OPEC+ production discipline, and moderating demand growth amid softer economic indicators. Recent price weakness stems from de-escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and reports of alternative shipping corridors, which have eased supply-risk premiums. Key upcoming catalysts include September and December OPEC+ meetings, U.S. inventory reports, and broader macro data on inflation and growth that could influence Fed policy and risk appetite in energy markets. Market-implied probabilities price in these dynamics as aggregated trader consensus backed by real capital.
