Naomi Osaka enters the National Bank Open matchup against Panna Udvardy as the clear favorite, buoyed by her No. 11 ranking, seven prior appearances at the event, and runner-up finish in 2025 on the hard courts in Toronto. The former world No. 1 holds a 20-8 record in 2026 and has shown strong recent form on the surface where she has historically excelled. Udvardy, ranked No. 74 with a 19-20 mark this season, reached her first WTA final earlier in the year but has struggled against top competition, including recent losses in Iasi and Hamburg. The matchup pits Osaka’s superior experience, power game, and consistency against Udvardy’s solid but lower-tier results, with the hard-court conditions and home-tournament motivation further tilting sentiment toward the higher-ranked player ahead of their August 5 encounter.
